Antaeus Workshops

Antaeus Workshops is a company specialized in unique construction. We work with wood, metal, stone, and glass to build (what we hope are) objects and places that inspire your imagination.

The founder of Antaeus Workshops was raised on a farm. He trained and worked an architect, and has taught design, construction, and building science at Algonquin College. He has 22 years of experience in construction, renovation, and historical restoration.

Our office and workshops are proudly powered by Bullfrog Power - clean renewable electricity. Our internet server is wind powered and our vehicles are powered by the power of thought.

(Dead dinosaur thought - and bodies.) OK seriously we use gas for the truck but we have the smallest most fuel efficient truck that we could get that allows us to work in the field of construction a 1997 Ford Ranger Longbox. (It is so hard to get a longbox small truck these days!)

Why are we called Antaeus Workshops?

The story of Antaeus the giant is significant to us for several reasons. Giants in Greek mythology were symbols of the wild and untamed power of nature. Antaeus was the son of Poseidon and Gaia – the offspring of the land and the seas. As long as he remained in contact with his mother Earth, Antaeus was unbeatable. Power rooted from contact with the earth. According to mythology he was killed by Hercules in a wrestling match. Hercules was unable to defeat Antaeus by shear strength; every time Antaeus was thrown down he regained his strength from Gaia. Observing this Hercules combined strength with intelligence and lifted Antaeus into the air whereby he was able to defeat him; a triumph of intelligence over the brute forces of the wild.
